Spinal Manipulation & Adjustment

Spinal adjustments are performed by our chiropractors every day. Most of them are related to neck or back pain. When a chiropractor here at Chiropractic Health Center in Duluth treats a patient by means of spinal adjustment, his primary objective is to eliminate subluxations that cause pain and loss of range of motion.

.

How Does a Chiropractor Perform a Spinal Adjustment?

Depending on whether or not a patient is being seen for a neck or back issue, most spinal adjustments involve the patient either sitting or lying on a special treatment table in a position that best suits the adjustment to be performed. Once the patient is properly positioned, the chiropractor applies a gentle thrust to perform the adjustment. Sometimes, adjunct therapies are required instead of spinal manipulation.

Adjunct Therapies

We provide many therapies at our clinic for purpose of treating more difficult or chronic spinal disorders. Here is a list of a few of those therapies:

  • Spinal Decompression: This gentle therapeutic treatment slowly and gently stretches the spine in order to reduce pressure between spinal discs. Spinal decompression might also be used to treat pain from damaged spinal nerve roots or degenerative disc disease.
  • Electronic Muscle Stimulation: Muscles or nerves are targeted for therapy with electronic muscle stimulation. During therapy, an electrical impulse travels from a device through wires to electrodes on the skin that are placed over specific muscles or nerves. This therapy is painless. Muscles can be relaxed, contracted, and strengthened, and nerves can be blocked from sending pain signals.
  • Cold Laser Therapy: The FDA has approved this form of treatment for purposes of treating damaged tissue cells and regenerating them. Different wavelengths of light penetrate the body deeper and deeper. The primary purposes of cold laser therapy are for restoration of damaged tissue and pain relief.
  • Myofascial Release: This form of therapy uses soft continued finger pressure on knotted and contracted muscle and connective tissue. It's pain free, and it improves blood flow to the affected area. In turn, that makes muscles want to stretch and increase blood flow even more.
